Windows 10: How good is Windows Defender in Windows 10? Should i install extra anti-virus programs?

Is Windows Defender enough to protect my Windows 10 laptop, or do i need extra anti-virus programs? Some people say Windows Defender is good enough, other people say it isn't good enough and i need extra anti-virus programs.What is the truth? Do i really need extra anti-virus programs, or is Windows Defender enough?

Can't activate Windows Defender. Message that there is an anti-virus program installed.

I've tried to activate Windows Defender real-time protection but I get a message that I already have an anti-virus program installed. I've gone to the Apps and Features option to verify that I have an anti-virus program installed and can't find an program
in the list. I did have Norton Anti-virus installed on this machine before I upgraded to Windows 10. Is it possible the program uninstall was incomplete and let some remnant that the system is seeing and thinks it is still installed?

Windows 10 Defender - How to make it default to task bar?

Using Windows 10 and currently I am using Defender for anti virus. For whatever reason Windows Defender does not show up in the task bar unless I search for the program or right click and scan a file/folder. Is there a way to force Defender to show up in the task bar at start up?
