How I can change the layout or order of the files in the "Home" section of File Explorer ?

Suddenly the layout of the files in "Home" of File Explorer has changed itself and I can't get it back at ho it used to be. Now all the files appear as one list and there no more "recent" or "favorites" section. It only has the previous layout when File Explorer opens itself after I upload or attach a file, here is the screenshot of it:

    File Explorer list order.

    Hi chzuck

Generally Windows 10 will order a folder with sub-folders first, then files . . .

Open a folder of files, on the View Ribbon, in the layout section, set view to Details and on the View Ribbon, make sure Group By is set to None

Then click on the Name column header so that arrow faces up to order the files alphabetically

Then set your view to either List or Thumbnails . . .

Does that result in your preferred view?

File Explorer preview pane - changed

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums. I am glad to assist you on this.

You can change how your files look by using the View tab. You will see various groups for changing the layout of the window, files, current view, or hide certain things you see onscreen. Within the Layout group, click one of the
available options to change how your files display onscreen. You can also preview the layout before confirming by hovering over one of the available options.

I suggest you to follow the methods mentioned below and check if it helps.

If you decide to disable the Navigation pane, follow these steps:

    1. Open File Explorer.

    2. Click the View tab.

    3. In the Panes section, click the Navigation Pane button. The Navigation Pane menu appears.

    4. In the menu, click Navigation Pane.

The Navigation pane no longer appears at the left side of the File Explorer window.

Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Hope it helps.
