Windows 10: How I fixed Black Screen of Death Explorer was wrecked

Had a power blip while I was gone and after I rebooted my desktop the monitor was black after login! I was able to get to the "Task Mnager"I was able to go to "File" and execute "Chrome" and this gave me a Google browser window. I later tried all of the standard suggestions.But when I checked in "Task Manager" TM Explorer was not even running. I was able to start it in TM again using the "File" option but it was DOA I tried restarting it but no luck....Finally decided to restore by again using TM "File option" enter "CMD" to get a command promptthen enter the following "RSTRUI.EXE" this will

Windows 7 black screen of death

I read a report a little while ago that said the black screens were nothing to do with updates but due to a malicious program (it hit more than just windows 7 users - vista, xp and 2000 were also prone to the black startup screen of death if infected). My windows 7 install is fully up-to-date and i've never had the black startup screen.

Just run some decent anti virus and you should be safe (i suggest microsoft security essentails since it's free and pretty decent). When you've installed an anti-virus i'd suggest doing a full scen to be sure there's nothing there.

Your OP is a little confusing. The title says you get a Black Screen with a cursor. Then you say it is a BSOD, which would be totally different. Then you top it off by saying the computer is a few years old but still works fine.
You may be mixing up your terms here. A BSOD would be a Blue Screen of Death, which is not a Black Screen. A BSOD is a screen that appears that shows an error message and then usually restarts. There are many reasons for BSOD and it depends on the message.
A Black Screen of Death is also not what you describe. a Black Screen of Death is total black, no cursor.
A Black Screen with a cursor means that the computer cannot find the Boot file, either the Windows drive is too low in the boot order, or the boot file is corrupted, or, usually the HDD has failed and needs to be replaced.
If we are talking about the Dual Booting computer with Windows and Linux, do you get the GRUB Boot loader? Can you boot into Linux? Have you tried to repair GRUB?
