Oh well, FF is my "poison", can't stand Chrome but waiting to see what will become of Edge. For now it's just too basic which might suite some but it's too constrained for me because of lack of some add-ons. Only future will tell. I might be old fashioned but I like to have menu on top.

What ESET may be detecting is temporary files which enable the optional program to be downloaded if the check box is selected, not the program itself because the installer silently installed it without r permission.

Google Chrome would be more than 4 files, and the version offered in installers is not specially crafted to tell antiviruses, "Hey, I'm a P-U-P!" That's for sure.

Moving on but CCleaner forums and Eset forums will tell the real story if anyones interested .

I use Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner after suspicious downloads.

JRT is excellent as well , i use Sandboxie which has kept me clean for years , it automatically deletes everything upon exit unless i decide to save something .

I will gladly start using Edge when it will allow apps to be installed, but won't even look at it again till then. That is my biggest complaint about Edge. *Smile

I do as well and i don't even have an office , go figure . If Microsoft's tech worked like it should it could of scanned my house and noticed there was no office before asking me to download one.

    Yes, i'm joking

People get very attached to their browsers , someone said they thought "Edge" would be used by 90% of all Win 10 users , i don't see that happening .

I read on here somewhere that in OCT sometime, sp1, will have new features for Edge, including ability to install apps. If that is true then I will try it out again......

That's right, SR1 is planned for October, we insiders already have parts of it in 10525 and 10532 updates but not much improvement in edge.
That brings us back to topic, every update and upgrade leaves some data on disk for backup and eventual uninstall of those updates, so using Disk Cleaner from windows to get rid of it may save some more space.

I did an experiment with CCleaner and here is what I found.
Yesterday I cleaned installed W10 on my Laptop and when I installed CCleaner it offered Google and Google Toolbar and I opted-out and they were not installed. I uninstalled CCleaner today and when I installed it again I was NOT offered Google and Google Toolbar and again they were not installed. I went to my desktop and uninstalled CCleaner and again upon installing it it did not offer Google and Google Toolbar and again they were not installed. I am assuming that once you opt-out of Google and Google Toolbar it is not offered again. So when fredc said the opt-out is not there he is right on a system that had CCleaner previously.

As it isn't required to register Ccleaner online, it probably was not uninstalled completely and some, either files, registry entries or parts of shared DLLs were left over. After a true uninstall, nothing of that would be left and installer would behave same as installed first time. Ccleaner is not only one that behaves like that.

  15. No chance, I've always used an alternative Browser since Netscape Navigator and this offering from MS won't change my mind. Firefox with plenty of buttons does me *chuckle

With reference to Eset and Ccleaner it's interesting to note that nothing is detected in Eset Nod32s default state, I would have thought a toolbar was more of an "unwanted application" rather than an "unsafe application"

    Eset Nod32 default settings
