You may end up with no added toolbars but they're detected in the .exe from Piriform. Definitely. *chuckle

  3. ESET seems to be a bit twitchy.

First it complained that I had to run it in IE.
I tried to run it (3x) using IE and it crashed (3x) trying to install. *Eek

So I downloaded the standalone installer.
After I installed it, I let it run (it took 11 hrs to finish)!

It complained about pretty much every tool recommended by a lot of the most experienced forum members on SevenForums, EightForums & TenForums.
It auto-deleted my OpenSUSE ISOs (they could not be restored). *Mad

I've used most of the items it complained about, for years, on multiple installs, with no mysterious network usage or performance issues.

After all of that, I'm prepared to take the risk that the ESET result is actually a false positive.

Well I don't understand why Eset reports a google tool bar as possible harmful program if it finds it. Its just a search engine, nothing more. I don't know of any other virus scanner that reports google as a harmful program. Its results are highly questionable in my opinion, and I would not trust it much.

Also no virus scanner should remove anything off your hard drive without your permission, or at least the opportunity to restore what ever it removes!!!

  6. I don't use NOD32 anyway. I use Malwarebytes Antimalware, that is when i feel like having an Anti-Virus installed. Most of the time i don't.

  7. It was weird though, as I was able to restore another ISO (Hiren's Boot CD). *Confused
I was also able to restore the other files I wanted to keep.

    It really didn't like OpenSUSE.
It obliterated it from my main Downloads partition and my backup Downloads partition.
Luckily I didn't have my external HDD (backup Downloads #2) connected.

You sound just like me, always have Backups for your files, and OS!! I do the same thing even putting some on my external drive which is always off, unless I need to access it. *Smile

  9. Well, Hiren's Boot CD is hardly <cough> legal <cough> *chuckle lol

As for Suse, somethings gone on because it won't delete it automatically on default settings. It defaults to "no action"

It still resides in my downloads.

    Thanks for doing that .

Did you have opt out options to avoid those toolbar's at the beginning ? I see your running Eset , it's the only one that seems to pick these toolbars up lol.

Most who download CCleaner exe are insistent that they are not installed on their system but running Eset online scanner with the appropriate boxes checked will reveal them .

I receive 4 separate instances of them every time i have downloaded the exe program , even when downloading direct from CCleaners website .

    Thanks for the post

Eleven hours , holw cow , thats insane , i don't think it's meaningful either since i don't see any performance issues , it could be a false positive , i don't know but it does pick them up .

Thats exactly right and why i said only Eset picks them up.
