How To Create Two Factor Authentication for Remote Desktop

Hello artmanphoto, are you using the built in remote software that comes with windows 10 ?
I too use remote software, so can i suggest you change to one of the following.
Because the remote software that comes with windows is very insecure.

Anydesk
To use 2 step authenticator with anydesk go here

Teamviewer
To use 2 step authenticator with teamviewer go here


Splashtop
To use 2 step authenticator with splashtop go here


Radmin
Does not have 2 step authentication as far as i know.
But it does have IP Filter, very high security.

All 4 have very high security,
Anydesk, Splashtop & teamviewer all have so you can add two factor authentication with google authenticator.
Personally i prefer radmin

DTS supported natively by Windows 8/8.1 and it should work on windows 10 too just DDL require to unlock your driver .

 

Multi Factor Authentication device unlock

Hi Community!

I have recently configured Multi factor authentication device unlock (logging into Windows).

Following the company wishes for something that you know, something that you are and something that you have i have tried to set this up on our devices.

I achieved this via Intune by setting Windows Hello for Business PIN, Fingerprint and Face recognition as the required factors for our devices.

This was mainly accomplished by following this guide from MS: Multi-factor Unlock.

Using the methods above as first and second factor unlock methods works fine.
For example:

1. Entering your PIN
   
2. Windows notifies with: Your organisation requires one more step
   
3. Scanning your fingerprint gives you access to the device.
   

But sometimes some users have some quirks with this.

I have gotten complaints of users not being able to scan their fingerprint or enter their PIN after scanning their fingerpint and vice versa.

After some research i have picked up from various blogs that Windows enters some sort of loop or block mode if you fail to authenticate the first factor, some users have also noted that locking the device, returning and trying to unlock the device, without any input the device is already in the loop or block mode.

Some users now become "looped" so often, they just switch to using their password, which bypasses the MFA method and allows you to sign in if you have a looped device. Rebooting the device does not help.

We were initialy looking to disable the password sign in method in Windows if MFA worked fine, but it does not.

I am doubting if this is an device issue or that this form of MFA is not compatible/supported with the sign in process within Windows.

I could not find any solution to this problem online, i only found that this was also a problem back in 2019.

I wanted to ask if someone has any experience with this method of MFA for unlocking the device or that i am trying/doing something that is not supposed to be or is there an alternative way to configure MFA on the sign in screen?

This post may have been quite a read, but any ideas, thoughts or help is greatly appreciated.
