Firstly, I know W10 can't do this, and that it requires additional software.
Secondly, I have read at least 4 forum topics on this, and remain confused.
Thirdly, yes, the copyright thing--I'll take my chances.
Some history:
Today, I stepped on and broke a DVD of King Lear, with Ian McKellen.
I have no idea how it got onto the floor--dogs, kids, gremlins, who knows.
The least expensive replacement is ebay, pre-owned, $49.95 plus $3.75 shipping--ouch.
What I want to do:
I want to take my expensive DVDs, and stick them in my laptop's hard-drive, and make a copy of these DVDs,
so that I don't have to buy them again when they get stepped on.
Requests for help:
1. Can anyone recommend a freeware that will allow me to
take my expensive DVDs, and stick them in my laptop's hard-drive, and make a copy of these DVDs?
2. Can anyone recommend a modestly priced program I can buy that will allow me to

I upgraded from windows 7 pro, and no longer of my original OS disk. It's been lost, but I have the product ID.

How can I make a copy of the windows 10 pro system to a disk in case I have to reinstall. My current hard drive is having issues and I would like to install a new copy to a new hard drive and wipe the old one.

You can also initiate a clean install by doing the following:

You can do a clean install a couple ways.

Press Windows key + i

Click Update and Security

Click Recovery

Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, click Get started

or

At the Sign in screen

Hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power icon on the screen

Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart

AFAIK Ripping a DVD to make your own copy is still illegal in The USA and not allowed to be discussed on this forum. In some places doing it is considered legal IF you don't have to circumvent Copyright Protection which pretty much makes doing it illegal.

 

You can simple make a folder for each DVD then simple copy all the files/folders to the folder. You can use winrar to compress the files to save space then write to dvd when required full instructions How to Make an ISO With WinRAR | Techwalla.com

No and No ! The suggested method is for software DVD's, like an Office install disc. You need specialized writing software to decrypt and copy commercial video DVDs, preserve the menus (more complicated) and make playable on your TV.
