Windows 10: How resolve error 16393, BITS Error code: 0x80004005 I'net Gateway?

anyone run this one before?
I am not currently using a WIFI device.

windows 10 updates

Windows 10 cannot download and install updates. I am getting the message: Error code Error 0x80004005. Can anyone help me resolve this issue please?

Windows 10 64 bit current and up to date. No connectivity issues

 

It happens to all my machines, and their internet connections are fine. Seems to be a common problem, but it likely isn't really causing any issues other than to those of us that look in our event viewers all the time.

Anyone learn anything here? It seems to have picked up on one of my machines, and now its throwing 10 of these codes per day. But the machine seems to be behaving fine

 

OK, I'm trying an experiment, based on a SWAG. I've noticed that the clusters of BITS errors occur at different times during the day. At least once, maybe twice a day, clusters of about 5-8 BITS errors in the event log. I looked through the entire Task Scheduler list to see if any scheduled jobs are running at the same times, but I didn't find any correlative evidence.

So here's the silly part of the wild ass guess. I disabled "Green Ethernet" and "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the network adapter driver settings. My working theory is that when BITS kicks on, in order to download something, or transfer something, that the Ethernet adapter is shut down, causing BITS to time out and fail.

Don't want to speak too soon, but so far, no more BITS errors since I made those changes to the Realtek Ethernet drivers. I'll see where it is this afternoon, but so far, so good. Its been about 18 hours

 

Well, that didn't fix it. SWAG indeed.

It's definitely happening because a scheduled task tries to do something. I just can't figure out which task it is. And my windows update is working fine, so its not that.

Assume the IGD refers to my router? Dialed into the router & see under Forwarding a tab named UPnP which is enabled.

Next went to Windows Firewall & could not find any apps related to UPnP so I added (or allowed another app) & browsed to UPnP Device Host Container.

So far so good, no more BITS errors. *Party
