Windows 10: How to access content from a hard disk with only a recovery partition ?

Hi,

I had to reinstall windows because my computer kept perma-freezing after booting.

I have 3 different hard disks:

• SSD 250 GB (Disque 0)
• HDD 1 TB (Disque 1)
• SSD NVMe 1 TB (Disque 2)

I installed windows on the fresh emptied ssd nvme, and I also deleted everyhting on the SSD 250GB while not touching on the HDD (that's where I kept most of my personal files).

So now everything works fine, except I can't access my HDD and here is how it looks like with the Hard disk manager.

The whole HDD (Disque 1) is considered as a Recovery Partition and the only option I have when right-clicking is to create a Dynamic Disk which I don't really know what is means.

Can somebody help me access the content of this HDD (Disque 1) ?

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

Help accessing recovery partition

if he deleted the recovery partition, you wont be able to access it. You will have to reinstall Windows from dvd or cd.....

This can happen if the Hard-disk drivers are not up-to date. I would suggest you to update the hard disk drivers first. To update the drivers, please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Device manager.
   
2. Then Expand “Disk drives”.
   
3. Then Right click on the Hard-disk listed under this category.
   
4. Then click on Update drivers.
   
5. Alternatively you can also try to update the drivers from manufacturer’s website.
   

Once the hard-disk drivers are updated, you will need to allocate the last partition (it is not allocated according to the screenshot) and you will be able to view the partition.



Also note that sometimes the hard disk partitions/drives might be hidden in This PC or My Computer window due to a Registry key. If a DWORD with the name NoViewOnDrive or NoDrives is present under following key in Registry Editor:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer

Delete the DWORD and your drives will become visible in My Computer window.
