  1. How to access user files from previous computer's backup

    Hello All,
Now that I'm on Windows 10 I found I have the need to access user files from an old backup when this machine was Windows 7. The Macrium backup gives me everything I need with the exception of the ability to view/access my prior user files.
Can someone point me to the necessary steps to do this.
Advance appreciation sent to all who read and/or reply. *Smile

  2. Automatic Update DELETED MANY FILES AND PROGRAMS

I'll assume that is not a copied and pasted message and just let you know that:

    1. No, the article does not help and is outdated.

    A. Those system settings do not exist anymore.

    B. There are no previous version listed.

    2. As I already said, I have backups, but not in the past two months, which is what matters.

    3. Why is there two users on my computer, one with "Username" and one with "Username.ComputerName". The one with Username has some files, but they are not accessed correctly as everything has errors or does not work, or I simply can't access them at all,
along with how files are still missing.

Cannot take ownership of ALL original files/folders after clean install of W10.

    Hi Ian,

Was the ACL modified to restrict access to a particular user on the previous version of Windows. I suspect they belong to another user and therefore you are not able to access the data. If the data is important it will need to be restored from backup. These
folders will probably not be able to be deleted, but that depends on the previous ACL restriction.

Old backup if NTFS will be owned by the old account even if the name is the same the sid won't be the same restore the files then take ownership of them

  5. Thanks Samuria,
That's the part I'm unsure of: Taking Ownership of. I'm sure it's not difficult, but I don't know the steps. *Confused

When you have browsed and selected image/folder, there should be "enable access to restricted folders" checkbox.

  7. Samuria,
Sounds easy, but here's what I got:

  9. Thanks topgundcp,
I've been mounting the Macrium Image file; your capture isn't familiar to me. But am wondering if I should be opening Macrium to execute backup viewing? And perhaps that's where I can do this.

Just double click on the backup image (.mrimg extension) , you'd get the screen above.

You can also check the make writeable box. That will allow you to change permissions at the NTFS level and then copy the files out with the new permissions you set.
