Windows 10: How to achieve this simple action via drag&drop?

For ages, it annoys me that when you drag&drop an object over a folder you are forced to put your object into the "selected" folder (like here) instead of inside the folder you are currently "in" (like here).

Is there a way to achieve this nonetheless? (Same issue when hovering over .exe files; you open the file with the selected application)

Like most of u know, with Shift you can move it, with Ctrl you can copy it and with Alt (or Shift+Ctrl) you can create a shortcut. Is there a similiar feature for this?

Drag & Dropping with the right-click button does not bring any further options as well sadly.

Only option I momentarily see is to drag an drop it over the path, but like the many other places where it also works inside the window it often is too small for my taste when quickly organizing stuff.

Maybe someone has a good tip for me, I mean it is not a big issue, it isn't even a problem with nearly empty folders.

(Pls do not just recommend a file manager, I am still trying to find one that I like but I am more looking for a windows solution; also, my issue might still occur when working with dialog windows, i.e. "open with" etc.)

Drag and Drop

Hi Charles,

the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.
