Windows 10: How To Activate Retail Version of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2019

The strange thing is that right now Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2016 and 2019 are available online by seemingly small unofficial sellers at highly discounted prices. Are these from volume or retail channels? Whatever channel they come from why the big discount? Since Microsoft hasn't weighed in this there is no way to find out for sure.

BTW, I think I saw Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2019 available for sale from a seemingly legitimate seller for about $500.

When I was going to school in 2012 I purchased Office 2010 University for $99. That was a good deal because Office 2010 Professional went for about $400.

Are you using the free academic version of Office 365? Is it Office 365 Education or Microsoft 365 Education?

I see that after you graduate you can covert Microsoft 365 Education to 12 months of Microsoft 365 Personal for $12. After that it is the regular price of $69.99 per year. If you instead have Microsoft 365 Personal when going to school you can still get 12 months of Microsoft 365 Personal for $12 when you graduate.

I have multiple copies of Office (1):
1 x Office 2007 Standard (2)
2 x Office 2007 Professional (2)
1 x Office 2010 University (2) (3)
2 x Office 2019 Professional Plus

(1) I also have even older copies of Office but they are too old to be useful.
(2) These versions of office can be installed on up to two computers with one being a desktop and tn other being a mobile device (laptop). Subsequent versions of Office do not allow that.
(3) Academic version of Office 2010 Professional.

The two copies of Office 2019 Professional Plus I have are from one of the unofficial sources. I am aware that at some point in the future they may no longer activate. If they continue to work for more than one year I will have gotten my money's worth. If at some point they no longer activate I may just fall back to Office 2010 University. That will cover both my main desktop and laptop.

I had considered buying a subscription to Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365). Instead I bought Office 2019 Professional Plus. If that doesn't work out I may instead subscribe to Microsoft 365 Personal.

I put Office 2007 on my second desktop. I like Office 2010 better but that is all that I have that isn't being used. Like I said I am saving Office 2010 in the case that Office 2019 no longer works.

Eight years ago I obtained a copy of Office Professional Plus 2010 for a non-profit organization I work with. I bought it from a company this is authorized by Microsoft to distriubte volume license software. When I logged onto the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center I was given the following:

• Link to download Office Professional Plus 2010 installation file
• MAK Product Key for volume license

Types of product keys

• MAK Product Key - Allows one time activation with a Microsoft activation server
• KMS Product Key - Allows multiple activations through a companies own activation servers

Note when you buy Office through the volume license channel you are actually buying activations. No matter how many activations you buy you only get one Product Key for all of them. You get to use the same Product Key to install Office until you exceed the number of activations purchased.

I see a number of online websites that offer Office Professional Plus 2016 and 2019 for sale at a greatly discounted price. Since these products are only normally supposed to be available through the volume license channel where are these products coming from?

Suggested scenario:

These keys may have been bought originally through the volume license channel but are being resold online. For example suppose an online seller obtained 100 activations from some company. They then sell the same MAK Product Key up to 100 times to different buyers.

Does this scenario make sense? Would that explain how these copies of Office are being sold?
