Windows 10: How to activate Win Server 2022 Standard VM installed on KVM ?

We have KVM hypervisor running on Ubuntu Server installed on single physical server with 64 cores.We have Windows Server 2022 DC license for 64 cores.We want to activate Windows server 2022 Standard VM installed on KVM server? Do not have hyper-v environment.

Server Standard 2022 hyper-v VM licensing

Hi there,

First of all, there is no "server" topic, so I put this under windows->other/unknown

According to this, if I have my fully licensed Windows Server Standard, than I can run 2 VM with the same license.

My understanding is:

- physical host win srv std +2 vm with win srv std; in sum 3 full license

I achived:

- host os installed (with desktop experience), activated with STD license key, hyper-v role installed (no other role installed - expect default file/storage service)
- first VM installed with same win server standard license, without an issue

- second VM installed with same win server standard license, but I can not activate it, because "license limit exceeded (used on other machine)"

Some forum says, I have to use AVMA for VM-s, but according to this AVMA requires Windows Server Datacenter edition with the Hyper-V host role installed.

Anyway, I've tried it. It does not work. "could not activate... you have to change key or upgrade host license"

My question is:

How to properly activate Win Srv STD hyper-v VMs?
- should i use AVMA on STD as well? how to do this? (data exchange already enabled)
- should I enter the OEM/Retail key for VMs? (than why I have error on 2nd VM)

AFAIK:
- 1 license key is enough for 16 cores. The host has sum 16 phy cores (2x8 aka 2 x Xeon Silver 4109T), so this should be no problem.
- the host slmgr /xpr and /dlv reports no error, aka "permanently" activated
- I should be able to activate VMs with no internet access....

 

How can we upgrade windows server 2019 to 2022 in KVM based virtual machine with trial license.

We are using windows server 2019 evaluation as a virtual machine in Linux KVM environment and We want to upgrade the OS from windows server 2019 to windows server 2022. So, We would like to know that how we can upgrade in KVM based VM and Do we need license in order to perform this activity.

 

Windows Server 2022 Activation issues

Hi there,

I've installed brand new server with WS2022 Standard Version :

- One HyperV Host (Windows activated online with no issues)

- First VM (WS 2022 Standard online activation no issues) with AD/DS Role

- Second VM with a Sage App Server. I can't activate this one online and slui 4 doesn't work for phone activation.

Both VM have been created on the same time, 1 month ago. NTP time.windows.com is set up on the host. Both of the machines on the same time zone with the correct time.

Fully updated OS, version 21h2, last update : KB5022291.

I've tried the usual stuff : sfc, dism, slmgr, slui.... Nothing works, I still have 0x87E10BC6 error when trying to activate Windows.

The network is fully operationnal, internet UP.

Is someone can help me ?
