    How to allow local administrator accounts to access all files on the computer?


    I've recently created a local account on my PC to separate my personal computer use and workspace, however the local account doesn't have access to a lot of files tied to my other account, even though it's an admin. How do I solve this?

    Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account


    Hello,
    Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
    I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
    I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
    Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
    I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
    Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Local User account can access files of Administrator account, BUG?

    Hi, I didn't give any permissions to the standard account while setting it up, in fact you're not given any way to do so when creating it. As you can see in the screenshot guest1 (standard account) doesn't even appear in the list, there's just system, my administrator account and administrators.

    Update: For some reason, it appears that when creating a local account (standard user) windows automatically gives it permission to access files in the administrator folder (at least on my machine). So the solution is to add the local account to the list of users in the security tab of the administrator folder and deny the permissions.

    As you are facing issues with privileges to access the local account, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.

    • Please be informed us the troubleshooting steps you have already tried.

    This issue might be due to some error in system settings.

    If you have not yet tried the below steps, I suggest you to perform and check if it helps.

    Step 1: I suggest you to log out from the current user account, restart the computer and log-in with the administrator account and check if you are able to access the local drivers.

    If the issue still persists,

    Step 2: I suggest you to place the computer in safe mode, try to log-in with administrator account and check if the issue persists.

    Try the above steps and reply to the post with an updated status of this issue, we will be happy to assist you further.
