  2. Assign Permissions for particular application

    Hello Donna,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Suggest you to try the below mentioned troubleshooting steps and check if they help.

    • Go to the folder where that application or program files are located or installed. (I.e. C:\Program Files or
      Program Files(x86)\...).
Say for example if I want to give full permission to the Internet explorer, then the navigation path will be
C:\Program Files, there i want to right-click on the Internet Explorer folder
      to go into properties.

    • Accordingly Right-clicking
on the particular application folder and select
      Properties from context menu.

    • Go to the Security tab and click
      Advanced.

    • Now click Change permissions. If it is not there, just continue with next step.

    • Click Add, then click
Select a principal under Permission Entry Folder window. This will brings up
      Select User or Group window.

    • There enter the name of the User Profile under
Enter the object name to select, for which you require or assign permission. Next click
Check Names. Once name appears in the field, click OK.

    • Check all boxes under
      Basic permission
:, also select the check box Only apply these permissions to objects and/or containers within this container, then click
      OK

    • Click Apply
      &OK & OK.
Now check if they able to run the program without any issues.

Keep us posted if you require further assistance.

  3. How to add the group "SELF" to an object so I can assign permissions to it

I need to add the group or account SELF to an object, so that I can assign permissions to it.

    When adding an account ......

I click on the Security tab which shows me a list of groups or user names that already have permission to access the object.

I click on the "Add" button, the "Select Users or Groups" dialog appears.

But if I search for SELF, I am unable to find it.

    As an example.

Using the above, If I want to add the user "TrustedInstaller" to an object, I would need to enter "NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller" into the "Enter the object names to select" box, because "TrustedInstaller" can't be found either.

If I want to add "SELF", what would be the syntax ?

    Windows 10 Photos Permissions Error

    Hi,

To assist you better, I would like to know whether you are signed in as administrator.

I would like to inform you that it could be better, if you sign in as administrator and check if the issue persists.

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if you are able to take the full control of the folder or files.

    • Right-click the file or folder, and then click Properties.
    • Click the Security tab.
    • Under Group or user
      names
, click your name to see the permissions you have.
    • The permissions for the selected user or group are shown in the lower portion of the properties dialog box.
    • Assign yourself “Full control” permission by checking the box for “Allow” for Full Control and check if you can access the drive.
If the issue still persists, follow the below steps.

    1. Type UAC or User Account Access on the search bar.

    2. From UAC window, I suggest you to bring down the level to default and check if it helps.
