How to autoboot to autoupdate to autoshutdown?

I'm trying to have the PC automatically boot at a specific time everyday, in order to do critical windows updates (along with necessary restarts), and then automatically shutdown. This way I'll never feel the PC being updated during normal use hours. Any ideas? Task scheduler, etc?

    Hi,

You may enable the Active hours on Windows 10 to let you set the time that you are spending with your computer so that there will be no updates to be installed during that time period. Windows Update will be install by the time that you are not using your computer
    or least needed it.

To enable Active Hours, kindly follow these steps:

    • On the Start menu, type Settings and hit enter.
    • Choose Update & Security.
    • Click "Change active hours" and set your preferred period of time.
Should you need further assistance, feel free to get back to us.

How to autoboot to autoupdate to autoshutdown?

Hi, first you'd have to stop Windows rebooting automatically:
Disable automatic reboot for updates - Windows 10 Forums
    (very long thread)

Second, rebooting daily solely for this reason would be excessive- updates don't arrive that often. However, if you observed the above and simply routinely shut your PC down at some time each day, then job done. (Booting from cold with a SSD is fast).

Finally, a simple schedule may not meet your needs- e.g. if you needed to leave your PC on for longer at some point, so it would seem some sort of conditional task would be needed. Only you know your pattern of working.

I've never experienced an automatic restart after an update- I do use the Active Hours setting, but this is strangely limited to a 12 hour period. Even when my PC has been idle after that with an update related restart pending, it has not restarted- and I always get a notification when an update has been received requiring one. I don't know quite why I'm in this fortunate position.
