Hey there,any idea on how to prevent Chrome, Skype, Word, in general any application that has save as dialogue, or open file dialogue window functionality from freezing to 3 - 5 minutes, when I have mapped VPN network drives whenever I'm off from VPN dialogue windows freeze?I mean it's a super annoying bug in Windows. Windows ignores disconnected local network drives, since 95 it doesn't give a dayum, but when the mapped drive is on remote network accessible via VPN tunnel for example, it freezes everytime, when the disconnected mapped drive is about to be shown in some MS Windows Explorer win

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Save-As dialogue box freezes

When you open a 'Save as..' window from any app you are actually calling Explorer.exe with some custom parameters, the same executable that when run without any parameters gives you File Explorer. A freeze suggests that a folder or device in the view it opens to is not immediately accessible and takes a while to confirm that it's there.

Do you have any mapped network drives, for example? Or an external drive that may need to spin up before it can be seen? Exactly what causes your delay depends on how your system is configured. Does File Explorer freeze in a similar way? If so, find the folder/device that causes the delay there and it should fix it for 'Save as..' too.

 

explorer frequently freezes

Hi all. I'm running Windows 10 home (10.0.19041) on a Thinkpad X1 carbon. In the last week, explorer has started to freeze very frequently. There are two behaviors that seem to trigger a freeze:

1) When attempting to save-as from Google Chrome, explorer will become unresponsive (including the save-as dialogue itself, the desktop, and any other explorer windows currently open). Forcing explorer.exe to quit is the only thing that helps - at which point the save-as dialogue is unfrozen, allowing for the file to be saved without issue.

2) When transferring a file, the transfer will initially hang at 0% for 30-90 seconds before eventually transferring. (At first I thought this was only an issue when transferring to a network drive, but it actually happens when I'm transferring within my laptop's SSD.)

I've fiddled with explorer's settings as suggested on other posts, and I've run virus and malware scans. Nothing seems to help. Any ideas?
