  1. How to boot from my old HDD on new build

Hey there,My motherboard finally went out not too long ago, and since it was time for me to upgrade my system anyways, I did an entire new build excluding my old memory and HDD. I have a retail version of WIN10, and when I went to boot UEFI shows "no bootable drives", though the HDD is showing up under storage.I read through another help article that seemed to be having the *exact* same issue and tried one of the suggestions from you guys on there. Since I can't get any video output I can't send ss of my BIOS but other than being a newer version of UEFI and different specs, my screens were th

Transferring everything from an old HDD to a new HDD

So I just bought a new 3 TB HDD and wanted to figure out what the best way to trasfer all the files (including my Windows 10 OS) onto the new drive. I might use the old one as a back up for important files but I want my new and bigger one to be my main
drive/ boot drive. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  4. How to boot from my old HDD on new build

Can I separate and move the boot partition from an old HDD to a smaller HDD or SSD?

Hi, my name is Kelly, and I'm an independent consultant and I'm here to help.

Yes, it is possible to move the boot partition from your old 3TB HDD to a smaller HDD or SSD. Here are the general steps you can follow:

Create a system image backup of your current boot partition on the 3TB HDD using Windows built-in backup utility or a third-party backup software.

Create a bootable USB drive or DVD of Windows installation media for the version of Windows you are currently using.

Insert the USB drive or DVD into your computer, boot from it, and begin the Windows installation process.

When prompted to choose an installation location, select the new smaller HDD or SSD.

Complete the installation process as normal until you get to the desktop.

Restore your system image backup onto the new boot partition using Windows built-in backup utility or a third-party backup software.

Reboot your computer, go into the BIOS, and set the new smaller HDD or SSD as the first boot device.

Save the changes and exit the BIOS.

Your computer should now boot from the new smaller HDD or SSD.

Once you have confirmed that the new boot partition is working properly, you can format the old 3TB HDD and use it as a storage drive. Just be sure to back up any important data on the 3TB HDD before formatting it.
