Windows 10: how to boot rufus usb

how to boot rufus, since my desktop is not compatible with Windows 10

Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

There is three options:
Windows 10
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

 

USB clean boot problem

USB media might be corrupt, try creating a fresh copyu.

Step 1: download a copy of Windows 10 you have a license for directly:

Download Windows 10 Feature Update ISO Files Directly Using Your Web Browser

Step 2: Create a bootable copy using Rufus:

Rufus, a small tool you can download for free.

After you have installed Rufus:

• Launch it
• Select ISO Image
• Point to the Windows 10 ISO file
• Check off Create a bootable disk using
• Select GPT partitioning for EUFI firmware as the Partition scheme
• Choose FAT32 NOT NTFS as the File system
• Make sure your USB thumbdrive in the Device list box
• Click Start
• Close when complete

Can't boot from USB or DVD. Tried everything..

you can't dual boot windows 7/8 from the same physical drive that's not possible at least not without using grub ... the windows 7/8 Bootloader will not boot XP installing one or the other trying to install both even on different partitions.. will kill the boot loader
the error he was getting with the windows 7 drive was most likely secure boot related or he needed to move the drive up in the "HDD PRIORITY List"

make a boot-able Usb using rufus ( https://rufus.akeo.ie/ if rufus doesn't work nothing will)
select GPT for UEFI computer when and select the windows 8 .iso you are using
*install windows
as for XP: Run it in a VM Nuffsaid ...
as for the system not booting from usb thats down to not using rufus. and possibly him screwing with the boot order I know the asus's boards have some issues with certain usb .iso utilitys .. at least this board does anyway .. .
and I don't think there is anything wrong with his .iso either
