How to change between different apps in the Taskbar with a single click when multiple files...

Hello, I've recently upgraded to a new computer with Windows 11 and there is something that is admittedly rather trivial, but that I am finding quite frustrating and inefficient. I often have multiple documents open in multiple apps eg Word, Excel, Adobe reader etc. Every time I want to switch between a document in say Word to Adobe where there are multiple pdfs open, when I click on the Adobe icon in the Taskbar bar, instead of simply bringing up the last pdf I was looking at, it shows the preview pane of all the open pdfs above the task bar and then you have to click a second time to actua

    :)

  2. can I list multiple apps on one menu like in Windows 7?

    Hi Tamara,

Currently, there is no option to organize multiple apps on one menu in Windows 10. We suggest changing some taskbar settings to help with your concern. Follow the steps below:

    • Open Settings.
    • Click Personalization.
    • Select Taskbar on the left pane.
    • Choose the setting for Combine taskbar buttons option to
      When taskbar is full
      .
When taskbar is full option shows each window as an individual, labeled button. When the taskbar becomes crowded, apps with multiple open windows collapse into a single app button. Tap or click the button to see a list of the windows that
are open. For more reference, click on this link.

Let us know if you need anything else. We're here to help.

  3. Change the location of taskbar on multiple display Windows 10

    Hello Peter,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Let me answer your query regarding taskbar location on multiple displays.

Do you have multiple monitors connected to the same computer?

Please be informed that right now there is no option to change the location of taskbar to the scenario which you mentioned.

As this is the option you would like to see in windows 10, you may provide your suggestions in the feedback app.

It will be directly referred by our developer’s team for further improvement.

    Follow the steps:

    • Go to Start, enter the phrase Windows Feedback, and then select Windows Feedback.
    • See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft Music.
    • If you find similar feedback, select it, add any details, and then select Me too.
    • To narrow your search to a specific category, pick the category that most closely matches your feedback (so it gets to the right people quickly). For example, for feedback about the Music app, select Apps > Music.
    • If you don’t find any similar feedback, select New Feedback, and choose a topic from Select a category and then select a subcategory.
    • Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and you're done.
However you may follow the below steps to change the location of the taskbar (changes the location on both the monitors to same place) and check.

    1. Right click on the taskbar and click on properties.

    2. Select the taskbar tab.

    3. In the “Taskbar location on the screen” drop down list you may select your preferred location and click on apply.

Hope the information helps, do reply if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.

How to change between different apps in the Taskbar with a single click when multiple files...

    my taskbar

    Hi Bill,

Just to verify, when you say display (pages side by side) on my taskbar, do you mean
to change the order of app buttons on the taskbar?

Whenever you want to change the order of app buttons on the taskbar, just drag a button from its current position to a different one.
You might want to choose how taskbar buttons are grouped together, especially if you have multiple windows open. By default, all open files from the same app are always grouped together, even if you didn’t open them in succession.

If you want to change how taskbar buttons group together, press and hold or right-click any empty space on the taskbar, tap or click
Settings, and then select one of the options from the Combine Taskbar buttons
    list:

    • Always, hide labels. This is the default setting. Each app appears as a single, unlabeled button, even when multiple windows for that app are open.
    • When taskbar is full. This setting shows each window as an individual, labeled button. When the taskbar becomes crowded, apps with multiple open windows collapse into a single app button. Tap or click the button to see a list of the
      windows that are open.
    • Never. This setting shows each window as an individual, labeled button and never combines them, no matter how many windows are open. As more apps and windows open, buttons get smaller, and eventually the buttons will scroll.

We look forward to your response.
