  2. MS Paint default file save type to JPG?

On Vista it's not an issue since it is set to JPG as a default. What about Windows 10?

Otherwise, I need help to know if following (intended for XP) applies to Windows 10?

    1. Open a blank screen in Paint and save it as a .jpg in the location you want as your default with the name "default.jpg".
    2. Right click and drag the Paint program from the Start, Programs,
Accessories location onto the desktop and select copy here.
    3. Right click on the Paint icon and then left click Properties. You should see a line like this "%SystemRoot%\system32\mspaint.exe" (without the quotes.)
    4. Place the cursor after the .exe and type a space.
    5. Type the full path and filename for the default.jpg file you saved (if there is any spaces in the path you need to enclose anything you type in quotes. The final line should look like this

    %SystemRoot%\system32\mspaint.exe "C:\this is the path here\default.jpg"

    6.click OK.

Double click on the new desktop icon, the file will open and the Save As default location will be where the file is located. If you make the default.jpg read only, you won't inadvertently change the file and a Save As will then pop up for any attempt to Save.

Change MS Paint default save format to JPG

As Les says, there is a way to add SaveAsJPG to your MSPaint Quick access toolbar. - As far as I am aware, this is the closest that you can get to what you said you wanted. - This applies to MSPaint not to Paint3D - WayneConfidential's 2011 solution is just about the same now and I've described the procedure below. 1 Open MSPaint [C:\Windows\System32\mspaint.exe] 2 Select the File menu in the upper-left 3 Hover over the SaveAs menu entry 4 Right-click on the desired format & select Add to Quick access toolbar

5 Its icon is added to the right-hand side of the QAT

6 To alter its position, for example to put it next to the default Save icon, click on the dropdown symbol at the very right-hand end of the QAT and remove any other icons that appear to its left. They can be re-added afterwards because all newly-added icons get added to the right-hand end.

7 Once you've done the job, you can back up your modified QAT in order to restore it to this or another Windows 10 or 11 computer. 7.1 Run RegEdit [C:\Windows\regedit.exe] 7.2 Double-click on the word Computer in its address bar to select it

    7.3 Paste in Code:
and press the Return on your keyboard to take you there. 7.4 Right-click on the Ribbon Registry Key itself in the left-hand pane and select Export

7.6 I then always add .txt to the end of the filename so I cannot accidentally run it [we actually say merge rather than run for .reg files]

7.7 If I ever want to restore my modified PaintQAT or set it up in another Windows 10 computer, I close MSPaint then remove the .txt that I had added and double-click the .reg file. There are two confirmation dialogs to get through and then the entries that existed when you did the Export get re-written in the Registry. I have just, for example, done this on another Windows 10 computer so that it is set up the same way as my main day-to-day computer and its PaintQAT now looks the same as this one.

7.8 I could, if I wanted, read the .reg file by dropping it into a NotePad window. After adding .txt to its filename, the same applies. 7.9 If you nose around at the Export step, you'll see that there is a .txt format option. Do not use it. It is less useful than a chocolate teapot. 8 I copied MSPaint to a Windows 11 computer using the EdTittel method - my rescue components ditty - post #14 - ElevenForum - Even though it is an 'extra' it uses the same Registry entries in Windows 11. - I run it once to create those Registry entries then I close it again & import my desired PaintQAT just as described in para 7.7 above. All the best, Denis Welcome to TenForums. It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.- At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet. - I download a new copy each month. - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.- Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page. - Both tutorial lists are searchable. - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example, taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example, Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]
