  1. How to change default settings to keep duplicate files when copying?

I'm wondering how to change the default setting to always keep duplicate files when copying and pasting between folders, so I don't have to click through a lot of boxes every time - I copy a lot of pictures with the same filenames, and I'm trying to save time. I would prefer to not have to change my file manager to something other than Explorer.

  2. automatically adds duplicate printer copy

    Hello,

I have encountered an issue on Windows 10.

I have an older printer which works fine on initial setup. Prints and is set to default How to change default settings to keep duplicate files when copying? :D

    • MY_BEST_Printer

The issue comes in when I unplug the USB cable and after some time plug, it back in it adds a new duplicate copy of the same printer.

    • MY_BEST_Printer (Copy 1)

This new duplicated printer is not set to default, so obviously, it does not send print file to the same queue pool and it does not get printed.

And if I keep plugging and unplugging it keeps adding new duplicates.

    • MY_BEST_Printer Default
    • MY_BEST_Printer (Copy 1)
    • MY_BEST_Printer (Copy 2)

Is there a way to stop Windows 10 from adding the same printer as a duplicate if it sees that it is the same printer?

setting for default action when replacing file

What @spunk posted is correct. However, @rtischer8277, what you posted looks like what happens when you download a file (app, song, pic, etc.) to your default Download folder (usually C:\Users\{user name}\Downloads) and that file already exists. The system will append (1), (2), (3) to distinguish it from the original or any other duplicates. I don't know of any way to change that behavior, perhaps someone else does.

How to change default settings to keep duplicate files when copying?

Recent (Save Files) - Change Default Settings to OneDrive

    Hello -
Thanks for the return. Before I undertake changing the Registry, I have a question.
The steps in my Registry, for my version of Windows 10, were a bit different, but I think I eventually got to the right spot.
The last step is to change the number of places you want to list in Recent Places. In my case, the default Max Display listed 50 as the number. So, if I were to change that number, how do I know the Save As page will be one of those places? Or, a similar question, will this registry change delete the tab Recent from my Save As page? This is what I would like to happen.
When I received my computer in Nov. 2016, the Recent tab was not listed in the Save As page. Something caused it to be added over time. Which brings me to this second question. Would there be any benefit in deleting the changed registry listing and reverting back to the default listing? See attachment.
