    How to change default storage location from SSD to HDD.


    I have a SSD(CHow to change default storage location from SSD to HDD. :) and a HDD(GHow to change default storage location from SSD to HDD. :) installed in my PC, I want to use the SSD for my more important files and things I want to boot faster and I want to use the HDD for general storage, the only problem is everything that I download defaults to downloading into my SSD(CHow to change default storage location from SSD to HDD. :), I don't want to have to manually change the download path for everything I download to go into my G: drive.

    I did some searching around and found the settings>system>storage>change where new content is stored. After I changed where those defaulted to it didn't make any difference, is there anything else I can try?

    Hi,

    Just setting up windows 10 with a 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD - got the Windows installed on the SSD and setup HDD as a D Drive for Data.

    I have gone to Settings > System > Storage and changed the default documents, music, pictures "Save Locations" to the D Drive (HDD) so it doesn't fill my SSD. The issue I have is when I go to Documents and save it still saves to the C Drive Documents folder instead.

    1) If this setting doesn't change the location for documents, pictures folders whats the point of it?

    2) I understand I can manually change the Documents, Pictures & Music location if I right click on them but will this have any effect on the system? As in does this need to be changed in the registry so everything in the system knows the Documents is now on the D Drive?

    Changing the default storage designation for the Microsoft Windows Store and various apps.

    Hi Isaac,

    The default storage location for the Windows store and apps is in system location where Windows is stored (This PC-> C drive), if you want to change the default location of the apps then I suggest you to follow the below steps to change the settings
    and check if it helps.

    • Open Settings and click on the System icon.
    • Click on Storage on the left side, on the right side under
      Save locations, select the drive to where you want your
      documents      , music, pictures, and/or
      videos       to be saved to by default.
    • Click/tap on Apply.

    The above settings option is available only from the Windows version (10586), I suggest you to check in which version of Windows build in installed on your computer.

    I would like to change the default save location from SSD to HDD.Whenever i install a new software it is saved directly in my SSD i.e the C Drive ,since its only 128gb it would fill up pretty easily.Is there any way to change the save location to my HDD
