Windows 10: How to Change Default User Folder Name When Signing into New PC with Microsoft Account?

Hi everyone,I'm encountering an issue that's been quite frustrating. Whenever I set up a new computer and sign in with my Microsoft account, Windows creates a default user folder using a truncated version of my name e.g., it creates "C:\Users\jorda" instead of "C:\Users\Jordan".I frequently change PCs, and it's annoying to have to go into the registry to change the folder name every time. Is there a way to ensure that the default folder name matches my full name correctly right from the start? Sadly, this was one of the things I was trying to avoid =/, but thank you for the information. Is there a way for me to make a suggestion?

Suggestion: Please consider adding a feature that allows users to set up a default profile on their Outlook account for new PCs. This default profile should include user account name, icon, password, folder name, etc.

Here's a workaround to rename the user account folder:

• Unlink your Microsoft Account from your Windows 10 device which will result for your account to be converted as a Local account.
• Create a new Local account, name it using your preferred account and folder name then set it as Administrator.
• Sign in to your Windows 10 device using the newly created local admin account.
• Link your Microsoft Account to the newly created local admin account.

After doing the steps above, check if this resolves your concern. If so, migrate all your files from the old account to the new user account and delete the previous one.

I would suggest you to try signing out of the Store by following the steps below and check if the issue persists:

1. Open Windows Store

2. Click on the user icon.

3. Under "account", Click on the user name and sign out.

4. Log out of the computer and check if it helps.

If that doesn't help, I would suggest you to sign out of Windows store and change the account to a Local account and switch it back to a Microsoft account using the administrator's Microsoft account.

The steps are given below:

1. Sign out from Windows store following the steps given above.

2. Press Windows key + I to open settings.

3. Click on "accounts".

4. Click on "sign in with a local account instead".

5. Enter the password if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Once you done, you will be signed out. Sign in again using the new password created.

7. Press Windows key + I

8. Click on "accounts" and click "sign in with a Microsoft account instead".

9. Enter your mother's Microsoft account credentials and check.
