Windows 10: How to change file dropping on desktop to switch places instead of running?

If I drag and drop a file onto another file windows tries to run the file with the other file. However I have never ever had a use for this function, in fact I have occasionally accidentally done this and made windows run things I didn't want to run, when I just wanted to move a file to another place on the desktop.

However I would find it useful if I could make files switch places on the desktop by dragging and dropping one file over the other. Is it possible to change the way win10 handles this to get this functionality?

Private and User Desktop Switched Places

"The desktop" can be stored in any folder, and there's a setting for where you want it to be. It can also be "easily" changed by drag-dropping, which often causes issues like you see.

To fix it, is probably just a few things:

• Go to your C:\Users\Jgo folder. Right-click the desktop folder and choose Properties. On the location tab, make sure it's correct there. If not correct, change it to the right place and restart. At the end you still may need to drag your icons from the
  public folder back to your real desktop.

I'll word my suggestion better
From the Start Menu I want the same Log off/sleep/ switch user drop down menu except I want an additional drop down menu for switch users which will list the USER Desktop you want to go to instead of clicking switch USER then going to the USER selection screen then selecting the USER

 

Cant place icons on certain places on dekstop

> Check for Updates.

We also recommend changing the desktop icon settings. To access it, follow these steps:

  Uncheck Allow themes to change desktop icons.

After installing the latest updates and changing the desktop icon settings, check if you can place icons on the left side of your screen.
