Windows 10: How to change file type association in Windows 11 using PowerShell

Basing my question off this link. So, Windows no longer allows the use of ftype, nor assoc, ok. What now? How do I programmatically change the file type of a program to another?Referencing the link, attempting to do what the OP explains, there is no key matching "UserChoice". Creating it doesn't have an effect on the file type neither.

Not to pester you, but it is inconvenient to "open with" every single time, and I remain quite perplexed why every other possible file extension appears to be listed in "Settings/System/Default apps/CHOOSE DEFAULT APPS BY FILE TYPE" but not .zip. It has always been possible prior to Windows 10 to associate ANY file extension with a default program. I'm not sure what you mean by ".zip is not listed by default." How else would one permanently associate a program with a file extension? The link I gave you, provided again below, as well as others I could find - indicates that that other people have .zip listed in their file type listings. Have you checked your listings available at location I've specified above? I have ... .yps, .z, .z96... and no .zip. Do you not see a .zip extension either but see essentially all others? How do I associate file types with non Microsoft programs?

Thank you for your suggestion. I had already reinstalled the program but did not restart. The restart did not change anything but I did learn a few things later.

• Installation does set the associations for types that are unassigned but it does not change the association for known types at least in many cases.
• It does not add the new executable to the list of possibilities that File Explorer displays if you click "Open with...". This is not a good thing so I will submit a Feedback.
  
• If you select properties for a file you can select change "Opens with:" which will let you browse for a program and it will then change it for all files of that type.
