Windows 10: How to change icloud drive location? and why it concerns onedrive?

How do I change the folder location of iCloud drive?I just did a fresh reinstall of Windows 11, my C drive is just a tiny SDD so I need to move the icloud folder location to my D drive.In the past I could do it by stopping icloud, move the files to D drive, and then mklink C drive to D drive folder location. Now I am unable to move the folder location like I did before. Firstly, I tried to disable icloud from starting, killing the process from task manager, nothing works. it just pops back up. Then because icloud process cannot be killed, I am unable to move the icloud photo folder from my C d

When I re-enable iCloud Drive after creating the link, iCloud renames the link and creates a new folder in the original location. So, again, is seems the location of iCloud Drive can not be changed.

Does anyone have a new solution. It appears that Apple doesn't care about us Windows users.

Just to verify, are you doing all of the steps exactly in the tutorial?

It's critical that you unlink OneDrive before moving the folder, and to select the new folder location when setting up OneDrive next.

Moving iCloud Drive on Windows to a custom location breaks upload

I tried moving the iCloud Drive folder on Windows 10 to a custom location using mklink /J as described in Is there a way to change folder for iCloud Drive?.

Using this workaround, all iCloud Drive files are downloaded to the correct location and new files are added automatically as well. However, no change made on the windows machine is uploaded to the cloud. This includes adding new files, editing existing ones, or deletion.

Everything works as expected when the folder is left in its original location at C:\Users\<username>\iCloudDrive.
