Windows 10: how to change icon for external hd

I have a wdlogo.ico
and
the following file on the root
name of the file autorun.inf
[autorun]
icon="wdlogo.ico"

But i see no changes in the explorer

Hello Charles,

• When you say "first 3 are external HDs", you mean three different External Hard disks?
• How many partitions available with the connected External Hard disks?
• When you disconnect the External Hard disk, will that icons still appear in the Taskbar?

Q #1. OF COURSE!

Q #2. Each HD has only one Partition.

Q #3. When the power to the External HD is turns Off the icon is not on the toolbar.

To answer your Question #3 I turned off the Power to one of my two 2 External HD slot holders. That removed the icons for Drives K and R. When I applied Power back to the slot holder the icons for K & R now appear at the end of the Desktop toolbar on the
Taskbar.
