  2. Is AHCI enabled?

    Hi Shumitra,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft community.

I understand your concern and will guide you in the right direction.

Windows uses AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) by default, but it may not be enabled if your BIOS wasn't set properly during installation of the operating system.

Follow the steps below to check if ACHI is enabled properly.

    a. Press Windows + X.

    b. Select Device manager.

    c. Click the arrow next to "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" to display the list of controller drivers currently used by your system.

    d. Check for an entry that contains the acronym "AHCI." If an entry exists, and there is no yellow exclamation mark or red "X" over it, then AHCI mode is properly enabled. If
you don't see an "AHCI" entry, or the only entry contains a red or yellow mark, then there's a problem and AHCI mode is not properly enabled.

Hope this information helps. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Windows Will Not Boot After Trying To Change To AHCI Mode

I have looked at the How to Enable AHCI in Windows 8 After Installation link you provided.

[By the way, after you paste in a web address press the spacebar and it will turn into a hyperlink so people can get to where you are pointing -

    http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-enable-ahci-in-windows-8-after-installation/
    ]

All their methods were about steps to take in Windows 8 Registry before changing the BIOS. They were not an alternative to the BIOS. If you have no such setting in your BIOS then you cannot use AHCI. All BIOSes differ but here is a sample AHCI entry to
help you check for anything similar -

how to change "rdid autodetect/ahci" to "ahci" 8a967d2a-8dc3-4201-85ac-ceefe8dfb974.jpg

    • I think you should leave any fiddling with AHCI now and focus on getting the system in working condition first though.
    • If SFC & DISM did not help you resolve this problem then I suggest that you restore your system image again.
    • If you no longer have it then make an
      installation USB
      and run a
Repair install [also called an InPlace upgrade]
      .

Once you have a working system again & only if you have a ACHI setting in your BIOS -

    • Make a new system image before any more experiments.
    • If you do find an AHCI setting in your BIOS then you could try just changing it and seeing if the system still works. Another user did just that and found that it all continued working without anything else having to be done.
    • And if it doesn't work for your computer then you could
either go back to the BIOS, reset it then give up the idea or do a clean installation with AHCI set and see if that works.

how to change "rdid autodetect/ahci" to "ahci"

    AHCI

I have followed your regedit suggestion and it will work that time and during a reboot however if I shut down the computer reverts to ide and I have to go through regedit again and my bios. So in trying to boot I have no recognized boot drive, I go into
bios change back to default settings then win 10 starts go to regedit make the changes to iaStorv\override change back to 0 and storahi\start overrideand change to 0 the other settings remain as changed from before. Win 10 keeps changing things back to ide
after a (1) boot in AHCI. The system used to boot AHCI when installed. After I tried to make changes to my bios to cpu and voltages I made changes system would not take had to reset bios to try again ( just went to far on something because some changes were
holding until I went to far). Since the reset have not been able to keep AHCI.
