Windows 10: How to change sound setting to automatically unmute sound when a headphone wired or...

I have two HP laptops. The older one is running Windows 10 Pro and the newer one is running Windows 11 home. On both of them I keep the sound muted unless I need to hear something. However, on the older one, it automatically unmutes the sound when I connect a Bluetooth headset. It doesn't do the same thing on the new one. What setting do I need to change in order to do it automatically on the new one?

Windows has started unmuting sound on bootup.

Have you tried this?:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Click on Hardware and sound.
3. Click the Change system sounds link
   Uncheck startup sound
   
   
   
   

 

Sound muting and unmuting automatically

My new PC keeps muting the sound and unmuting it automatically. I have searched forums and websites, but none have the answer. How do I stop this from happening?

 

Sound won't come back after muting


Problem:

Plugging headphones (Sound plays) -> Muting -> Unmuting -> Sound doesn't play anymore

Fix (No restart required)

Sound doesn't play -> Mute (with headphones in) -> Unplug headphones ->Unmute (with headphones out) -> Mute (with headphones out) -> Plug headphones -> Unmute (with headphones in).

This is the shortest pattern I could find. Important to follow step by step. It might not work because I have no idea why it works on my end (without starting conspiracy theories about boolean variables being out of sync on the audio driver, which would be the most embarassing thing ever for whoever wrote these drivers).
