    how to change the "allison" in C:/Users/allison/Documents/


    Hi, I can't figure out how to change the part that says my name to something that is not my name. I have been trying to figure it out for a while and I also did not know what to search to find the answer online so can someone please help me

    Hi Andre,

    I was not able to proceed with the Repair Upgrade as you recommended. Using the Update Assistant, I confirmed that I have the latest version of Windows 10. I could not utilize the "Create Windows 10 Installation Media" tool as I am not logged in as a administrator.
    Any ideas?

    That is the login account name. You can't change it.

    You can create a new login account and that would be the user folder name.

    That's right, I forgot about the newer MS email account names.
    But I don't think that will rename the directory, will it?

    EDIT: This link from Windows Club does describe a registry edit that will allow a name change to the profile folder:
    How to change User Account Name in Windows 10/8
    But the user comments tell us that this would be a mistake on Windows 10.

    I think the safest, easiest way is just to create a new user account named properly from the start.

    There is a good reason why you can't, or at least shouldn't, change the profile name. There are potentially many references to the old name in the registry and application configuration files and finding and updating all of these is a serious challenge. And there can be equally serious issues if you get it wrong. That is why changing the account name doesn't change the profile name.
