Windows 10: how to change the audio in from rear speaker to mixer

There is only one option and no clear way to enable the mixer can anyone help

Rear audio ports always show as “Not plugged in”


I've been having this issue with Windows for about a week now which NONE of the back panel/front panel connectors (speakers, microphone) are being recognized by Realtek audio manager. The only audio input/outputs that are showing are the optical.
Troubling shooting steps I've tried (none worked):

• COMPLETELY uninstall all Realtek drivers/reinstall
  
• Tried using windows drivers
  
• Reinstall Windows 10
  
• Upgraded chipset driver
  
• sfc /scannow

I called EVGA and asked for RMA but then I booted into a Ubuntu OS and all the ports work FINE. It must be a problem with windows 10.
Can you think of any other troubling shooting step I can try to fix this annoying issue? Thanks!

After looking in Device Manager under Audio inputs and outputs, I don't see any speaker/microphone listings, only the optical crap:

 

Realtek Audio 5.1 configuration : rear speaker switch to side speaker

Hi there,

I have the exact same issue, at least I think.

As described in my profile, my motherboard is an ASUS Z77 Extreme3D with a Codec Audio Realtek ALC898 embarked which support 7.1 configuration... But you need to be able to change one of the pin destination to do so...

I have 5.1 speakers, not 7.1... and only 5 pins on the back side... I generally switched the black role from rear to side speakers so I could use 5.1 config like Dolby defines it (as Side and not Rear speakers).

But since I went to Windows 10, I can no longer switch to a different selection for any of the pins... the driver won't allow it. So either I use 7.1 config with side unchecked, with probably a bit of a loss of quality in the sound... Or I switch to the 5.1 but I lose totally the side effect as my side connected to the black pin aren't used as the black thing is used for... rear and not side... It's a bit complicated, I admit, but very frustrating as well.

If you have any suggestion...

HTC HD7 rear speaker

Hi opeld,

Setting the phone to vibrate only sets the ring and alerts to vibrate. Audio will still play through your speaker (there is no way to "silence" the rear speaker on the HD7 that I have found).

When you say that the speaker is "always on" do you still hear sound even with the headphones plugged in? If so, you have a small hardware fault. Plugging the headphones in should disconnect the rear speaker, removing the headphones will reconnect the speaker,
but the audio should pause at this point, and not continue to play through the rear speaker.
