  2. Windows update 22H2 KB5030310 change the desktop icon font color to white shadows and won't change

After installing Windows update 22H2 KB5030310, the font colors changed and I cannot get them back even after recreating another theme, messing with the background color, etc. After I installed the update, the font colors went from black to white shadowed. I went into my theme and tried to change the white back to black, and it won't change. I tried to get rid of the shadow and after unchecking the shadow selection as per the information found online, the shadows remain. I uninstalled the update and I was able to get my desktop font color back to black. I reinstalled the update and my icon fonts went back to white shadow. After the last uninstall of KB5030310, I ran the processes in Windows, HP, and NVIDIA to make sure all of my drivers, BIOS, Firmware, and anything else was up to date. After the updates were completed, I reinstalled the Windows update and the font problem was back. All of my fonts changed from black to white shadowed. I thought recreating a new theme would work, but the only way to get the desktop fonts black is to use a custom theme and there is no way to customize it for the color of the taskbar and the overall look in general. I know that desktop setup is a personal thing and I have been setting this exact customization up since 1997 and it's hard to use something else and feel comfortable. Is anyone else having this problem? Can someone give me instructions on how to use my current customized theme with this new update?

  3. Desktop icon font style changed

    Hi Aster:

OK, yes that works to remove the shadow font, but apparently it was also an outline font as well. The user with the outline/shadow font has a white wallpaper background. I can see the white font of the icon text when the icon is over a darker portion
of the wallpaper. How to switch the font color to black?

    Thanks

    Mike

How to change the font for desktop icons from white shadow to simple black?

Icon Font - lost white/shadowed font

I recently installed a new hard drive and did a fresh install of Windows 10. As I started to reinstall programs, I was happy to see that the font was white/shadowed because I had somehow lost that feature before and my fonts were very hard to read.

I transferred a bunch of files off my old hard drive onto my new one while I slept. In the morning, my white/shadowed font was replaced with just white and now all of them are much harder for me to read.

I have found a way to get the font to switch to black, but it isn't very satisfactory. Does anyone know how to get the white/shadowed font back?

    Edited with Answer:

Turns out my spouse was messing with controls!

I solved the issue. If anyone else would like to know what I did:

Use the search bar to search "advanced system settings" (which you can also access through the control panel). Then choose "performance settings." Then check "Use drop shadows for icons..." And hit ok.
