Windows 10: How to check if chkdsk is stuck or just taking a while?

Hello, I am sure this question has been asked before, but I am not sure if it has occurred in the context I'm in. I accidentally force shut down my PC when it was frozen on a normal shut down, and the next morning, I woke up to my C: drive file system being corrupted. It now shows up as RAW in Windows. I bought a new boot drive to install windows and try to recover the files from the old drive. I've tried running chkdsk, which says that the file system is in fact NFTS, but when it gets to actually scanning the files, it does not appear to make any progress. I've been letting it run for several

To assist you better, let us know have you installed any security software in your system.

Check disk will take abundant time to complete the process and time depends on data present in the hard drive.

If check disk process taking more time to complete. Please close the check disk process and restart the system. I suggest you to perform check disk from the advanced boot option.

Please follow the steps to access advanced boot options.

  Press windows logo key + I key and select
  update and recovery.

  Select recovery and click on
  restart now under advanced startup.
  
• 
  Select troubleshoot and select
  Command prompt.
  
• 
  Then start performing check disk.

Why is chkdsk stuck at 11%

I would suggest you read these, then decide how to proceed. Note 11% is a figure that has been observed.
Also consider with which parameters you are running chkdsk, and the comments about patience and time.

 

geforce experience takes an age to load..

Well that's why I asked. Mine is on SSD and takes 11 seconds. Your list of games will not appear if it has not checkd for updated suggested settings for awhile until it checks.

When it says it is refreshing the game list, it is checking, because NVIDIA periodically updates suggested settings. Plus it will look for those for new games you have installed.

So, the less it is run, the slower it will be.
