Windows 10: How to check laptop wi-fi antenna is working using software

Dear microsoft community,My laptop Lenovo ideapad was interventioned yesterday. They've changed the bezel and the top panel , due to mechanical problems. I didn't have any time whatsoever to use my laptop. This morning I wanted to work on some things, and turns out that the wi-fi seems to be completly dead. It doesn't find any network. I think that the wi-fi antenna was not reinstalled properly, or the whole top cover itself idk, but I don't know how would that be possible, or how to verify it using software. I need to confirm if the problem is on the antenna, and not on the adapterI alrea

Directional antenna for distant Wi-fi?

I’ve heard that there are antennas available that are directional and canbe used with a laptop to access Wi-fi that is further away, or to geta stronger connection with signals that are normally distanced. Well, there’s a neighborhood park about 3 blocks from my house thathas free Wi-fi, and I was thinking that I could use such an antennato access this Wi-fi spot from home so I would no longer have to takemy laptop to the park to get Wi-fi. One problem though: How would Iconnect the antenna to my laptop? I don’t see external antennaconnections. So how does someone connect an external antenna totheir laptop? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5558.

It does look like the airbridge has a client mode. It would at least give you an outdoor antenna, but I doubt the park's WiFi transmitter would be powerful enough to push the signal 3 blocks, and it would very definitely have to be direct line of sight with no buildings or trees between the two WiFi antennae.

 

Trouble Changing Wi-Fi Password


I've been following the following steps to change my Wi-Fi password for some time:

1. Launch Control Panel.
2. Click "Network and Internet."
3. Click "Network and Sharing Center."
4. Click "Wi-Fi...."
5. Click "Wireless Properties."
6. Click the Security tab.
7. Check "Show characters."
8. Enter the password in "Network security key."

Those steps have been working just fine, but today I discovered a new wrinkle. If I change the password inside the router first, "Wi-Fi..." doesn't appear in step 4. This isn't much of a problem at home, because I can just change the password in Control Panel before I change it inside the router, but it would be a problem at a public hotspot, or something of that nature. I also tested Brink's instructions in "How to Connect To a Wireless Network in Windows 10," but they don't work for me either. How can I fix this?
