You can verify the information by following these steps, add the link where these steps are completed, simply if your password is valid, your Windows will be activated, it is the best way to know if the product key is valid.

Checking your activation status

To check the activation status in Windows 10, select Start button, >> then select Settings >> Update and security >> then select Activation. Your activation status will be displayed next to Activation.

Valid Win7 Product Key not accepted by Win 10 upgrade

Hi,

I did not realise I had been at all vague, my apologies.

Unfortunately my neighbour now has his laptop back as I got nowhere. I have suggested he wait until the windows 10 upgrade system makes it available through windows update (it is in the queue).

As stated, I have tried running from the media created by the media creation tool to a USB (this is what I used to successfully upgrade my laptop and surface Pro). I have also run the media creation tool and opted for it to upgrade directly rather than save the files.

The operating system is Win7 Home premium OEM version. The key is valid and I re-validated it to be sure with the MS online actvation system. The laptop is 64-bit.

On each occasion it goes through the initial install steps and then gets to the screen where it asks for the product key.

On this screen there is no skip option and as the product key is not accepted, the only option is to cancel the install.

For some reason the upgrade seems to be taking a different path on this machine and does not give the skip option.

Check validity of Win10 Home OEM product key?

Hi Folks,

I'm having sufficient issues with my machine that I want to stop fighting with it and just nuke the drive and do a clean install of Windows 10. Problem is, it's an OEM (Dell) copy of Windows, and it came without a product key; no sticker on it anywhere. No disk either, of course.

I contacted Dell, and eventually they gave me a command to run in Command (as administrator), and it returned a product key.

I'd like to check to see if this is a valid key *before* I nuke my buggy existing install. I downloaded a copy of Windows 10 from Microsoft, and given a valid OEM key, it *should* install okay. Worst possible scenario would be getting to the point where I type in the product key and Windows tells me it's no good. Dead in the water. I do NOT want to end up in this situation, so I'd like to check it for validity first.

I can't seem to find any *current* way to do this on the Microsoft site. There's some 'aftermarket' stuff downloadable from various places, but I don't really trust those either. Can anybody tell me of a legitimate method of validating the product key Dell provided me with? It'd be very much appreciated!
