I downloaded a file on the Internet a month ago, and I didn't notice it was a cmd.bat file. I ran it with administrator permission. After that, all my emails, social media accounts, and Steam accounts were stolen, but they are safe now. I backed up all my important files on the cloud, then cleaned all the disks once and reinstalled the system. I received a Google verification code for no reason on Saturday of last week and on Saturday of the week before last week. Pc viruses

My uncle brought me an old pc that has tons of malware and viruses ( he never used an anti virus).

What i was going to do was wipe the HDD clean then reinstall the os but i guess he has a lot of pictures and files he needs.

So how would i go about deleting all the bad stuff ?

i will also try to get him to buy a copy of kaspersky once it gets cleaned out.

Your steps in post #1 should work for 99% of viruses that may be on a usb flash drive. However, there are a very few viruses that can infect the MBR of a drive. I would use Diskpart from a command prompt (Admin) to clean them. In the command prompt type DISKPART then, at the Diskpart prompt use the commands:

LIST DISKnote the disk number of the usb and use it in place of # in the command:SELECT DISK #
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

After this you will have cleaned the partition table from the usb and created a partition using the whole of the the available space. You can then format this partition in File Explorer.


For a CD-RW, if you right-click on it in File Explorer there is an Erase option.
