    How to clear the Paint recent file list in Windows 11?


    When I google for that exact question there are loads of web pages giving an answer, and it's to use regedit and search forHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Paint\Recent File ListThe thing is, when I open that path, there is no "Paint" under Applets.I tried making a full registry search for "Recent File List", and it finds a few such nodes, but none of them are in any way related to Paint nor contain the files shown in the Paint recent files menu.If I make a full registry list for "Paint", it gives a couple dozen hits, but none of them contain anything even

    you get the idea. ( too lazy to put it in a for loop and test it.

    or just open regedit and remove all the fileX from that key.

    only way I know to clear em out is to remove the reg keys

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Paint\Recent File List.

    you can try setting that container to read only but I'm not sure how that will affect it. or a basic powershell/vbscript in taskscheduler to wipe those keys every so often.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    \Applets\Paint\Recent File List read only
