Switching NTP Client from one NTP server to another

Hello all,

I am struggling a bit with NTP synchronization and seeking some help.

I configured a windows server as an NTP server. And I configured several clients to sync their time with this server.

Now I am finding a small skew between one of the clients (PC-A) and the server after a couple of months.

When i try to resync, it always shows sync successful. And it shows me the IP address of the server in the adjust date/time page. But when i run the command w32tm /query /configuration, it shows me the IP address of the NTP server to be a different machine (lets call it PC-B).

Now, this rogue PC-A and PC-B are perfectly synced. And PC-B is a client of the server. But it doesn't sync properly with the server. And hence the time skew.

Does this issue occurs using an internet NTP server?

Have you checked Linux NTP server configuration file?

 

About Microsoft having public NTP server

I suggest Microsoft to start its own public NTP server, which can be used ny people for syncing computer clocks on networks where NTP ports ate blocked.

Their current server is protected and uses only selected ports for time syncing in OS.

However, if it starts using port 80 or 443 then it will be easy for people to sync on restricted or secured networks.

Kindly let me know if such thing already exists.
