  1. How to configure OneDrive to back up user files from int HDD

    Hi all!

I've done some research on Microsoft's OneDrive. It sounds like it could replace my Carbonite subscription.

While I've got the OneDrive account set up ok, I can't get it configured quite right.

I installed an internal 1TBHDD into my laptop that came with a 256GB SSD. Windows 10 was / is preinstalled on the SSD.

I want to use the HDD for saving my user files (documents, pictures, music, videos). I've got the system configured to use my HDD as the default storage location for these items.

I do know the process for moving the OneDrive location on my PC. (I've moved it a couple times). But what I can't figure is, where do I place the OneDrive on my PC so that anything I save in my (now) default save location(s) also automatically backs up to my OneDrive in the "cloud"? What am I doing wrong? Is it even possible?

    :)

  2. File History doesn't back up the 'Documents' library, but does back up my local 'OneDrive' - implications for FileHistory

    Hello everyone.

I've just moved to Win 10, and have started testing out File History too, with a USB HDD on the same laptop. It works, but it will not backup the 'Documents' library that is held locally ('Users/myname/documents/) . Instead it backs up a 'Onedrive' folder,
which is located at Users/myname/onedrive/ on the laptop.

As a test, and to get the feel of Onedrive and File History, I moved three folders from 'Users/myname/documents/) to 'Users/myname/onedrive). Now, that's only a couple of GB, but what happens if I move 50GB of files into dropbox? I have only got the 15GB
free onedrive quota, so presumably only 15GB gets stored.

And the other 35GB? Presumably it just stays local, but in the 'onedrive' location. In that case it will get backed up with File History
    Can anyone confirm?

From tests I've done it appears that if you unsync a folder/file in Onedrive, that folder/file is removed for the laptop (from the Users/myname/onedrive folder) and will not get backed up with File History. Seems like you have to have everything synced
to get a full backup with file history. I suppose any unsynced (and hence not backed-up files) will still be there on Onedrive in the cloud, but it makes me a bit uncomfortable having parts of a backup in different places.

Am I missing something basic about this situation? Has anyone else pondered it and found some kind of solution to the backup dilemma?

  3. New computer. Windows 10. 240 SSD and 2 T HHD. What files go where?

Purchased a new dell Computer loaded. Came with a 240 plus SSD and 2 T HHD. The HDD was not set up except as a back up according to dell support. No help at all.... I was able to move my onedrive to the HDD and I set up a sample Document folder on the
HDD. I now need to download my carbonite saved files from my old computer, almost .75 T of saved files. Photos, music, video, cad files etc. What files can I move from the C drive SSD to D drive and how. Thank you. Keith Scheidemantle

  4. How to configure OneDrive to back up user files from int HDD

    - can you not just sync the files you want to save to OneDrive individually
    - once they're set up on OneDrive, it ought to be just a matter of refreshing the sync.. (??)
