Windows 10: How to copy data from old HDD that appears in GPT protective partition mode

If you have replaced the old HDD, for example with a new SSD, and want to copy data from the old HDD, you may face the problem of the disk in GPT protective partition mode. Connecting the old HDD as an external drive may not be the ideal solution, as the operating system may actually detect it as a GPT Protective partition. To solve the problem it may be useful to connect again the old HDD to the motherboard via SATA cable and power supply via PC. Boot the PC from the operating system installed on the new SSD and see if, in file explorer THIS PC, the old HDD is accessible to copy the files s

How to delete the GUID Partition Table (GPT) on a HDD

I have a Windows 7 PC that has a virus (probably multiple viruses). I'm going to rebuild the PC with Windows 10.

I have removed the HDD from the Windows 7 PC and have it externally attached to a different Windows 10 PC via eSATA.

I have deleted all of the partitions on the external HDD - but, also - I would like to delete the GPT from the HDD also.

How do I delete the GPT from an HDD?

I have googled some references on the internet that suggest using various freeware utilities (e.g. Super Fdisk).

Does Windows 10 have a command that deletes a GPT - perhaps somewhere in the DISKPART command?

I'm thinking if I use DISKPART to convert the GPT to MBR and then convert it back to GPT - I will have effectively deleted the GPT.

Any suggestions?

Laptop HDD fail, Shows partition but can not copy data, testdisk MBR code fail

I use 2TB HDD in my laptop with 250 GB partition for windows 10 and rest for data storage. I switched my laptop so moved the HDD from old to new laptop and started the system. Windows logo came up but within a minute laptop crashed and then after nothing
worked. I took out the HDD and plugged externally to another windows 10 system where it shows both the partition mounted with their respective sizes. When I open the drive it shows folders as well but when I open or copy any of the folder it gives error "The
device is not ready".

I tried using minitool and recuva data recovery but it failed to detect anything.

Then I plugged the HDD externally to Ubuntu system. Gparted shows 3 partitions, 1) ntfs system reserved 549 MiB, 2) ntfs Windows 250 GiB, 3) ntfs 1.57 TiB. But the direct data copy or testdisk fails. I used testdisk to analyse lost partitions but nothing
is reported, even in deep search. I then used the MBR code but even that failed.

I have important data in Data partition so I do not want to take risky steps. So I am now posting this question for help.

Kindly suggest how to rescue the data on the disk.

GPT Protective Partition. How to read data / recover hard drive that is in this state.

Hi everyone,

Recently I've had a hard drive of mine, a WD Red Network Attached Storage drive, suddenly convert to GPT Protective Partition.

I have no idea what has caused this and no idea how to reverse it.

I've been online and scoured the internet for solutions, software that can read the partition, but it seems as if few people are having this issue on a Windows 10 PC. Some forums say people are trying to read a GPT disk on windows xp and it shows up as GPT
Protective.

I have all of my data on the hard drive so erasure is not an option, several programs I am using can scan the drive and reveal some files and data intact.

If anybody has a solution, or knows any program able to read a GPT Protective Partition, please contact me.
