    How To Create Two Factor Authentication for Remote Desktop


    Can someone please tell me how to create a Two Factor Authentication for my Remote Desktop. I am running Windows 10 Professional 64 bit. I recently was infected with a Ransomware virus and I am told that they probably came through my open Remote Desktop port that I use to remote into my machine when I am out of town.

    Microsoft Account set to use 2 Factor Authentication & Authentication Phone App but it doesn't prompt for authentication when signing in to my Windows 10 PC locally or remotely (via RDP).

    OK I created a 2nd Microsoft account and setup the Authentication App on an old phone I had lying around for 2-factor authentication.

    Step 1

    I logged into this website with that account and it prompted me with the Authentication App so 2 factor is setup correctly on the NEW Microsoft Account.

    Step 2

    I logged in on my Windows 10 PC with that NEW account and it also DOES NOT PROMPT for 2-Factor Authentication.

    I tried to log in via RDP and, again, it DOES NOT PROMPT for 2-Factor.

    My question remains unanswered.

    Only third party solutions are available for 2FA over RDP. This seems to be a popular one:

    Microsoft Account successful configured to use 2 Factor Authentication but I am not prompted for second authentication when signing in to my Windows 10 PC remotely via Remote Desktop

    I've successfully setup my Windows 10 Desktop to log in using my Microsoft Account.

    I've successfully setup my Microsoft Account to use 2 Factor Authentication.

    When I sign in to my Windows 10 Pro PC with my Microsoft Account I am not prompted for the 2nd authentication when I use
    Remote Desktop.
