Windows 10: How to deactivate a Windows product key without access to the computer?

Hello,My laptop died. It cannot be powered on/turned on/accessed at all. It is completely dead.I want to remove the Microsoft product key from that laptop and use it on my new one.The key was purchased online from the Microsoft store using my account, but in the purchase order there is no mention of the key itself. The dead laptop is listed under "My Devices" but there is no mention of the key. I want to remove the key from the device listed there and add a new device, but I can't add the product key to the new device until I find the actual product key. Deactivating Windows will not remove it from Microsoft's activation server.

It just simply deactivates Windows on the PC itself. This would only be helpful if say you're giving or selling the computer to someone, and don't want it to be activated with your retail product key.

You would only need to either uninstall or deactivate Windows on any other PC that you plan on using the same retail product key (license) on a new PC.

How do I deactivate a Windows product key from another computer? All the answers I found refer to deactivating a product key on the same machine but I can't do that because the the machine was reinstalled with Linux without deactivating the product key.
My case is specifically for Windows 7 but for the sake of the question if there's a method that works for all versions of Windows that be preferred.

Deactivating key does not deactivate Windows.


According to EULA, if you have an oem key, that cannot be transferred to new pc.

If key is retail, you either sell pc with windows and key, or you keep key and wipe windows.
