Windows 10: How to declutter ?

Hi!

So I made the move to iPad but I may need a Windows laptop from time to time, I just found the notebook I used in middle/high school : a HP Pavilion X2 10-n113nf. You might have no idea of what it is but basically it’s a detachable notebook, it has an Intel Atom x5 clocked at 1.44GHz, and 2 gigs of RAM.

It’s pretty slow computer and I have reset it but there’s a ton of useless stuff on it, XBOX things, mahjong, candy crush games etc, I just want to be able to manage my Kobo e-reader, reset USB sticks, basic tasks.

I have looked on google and found about a « Fresh start » option but if I understood it well it only applies to apps I have installed ?

Does anybody know how to declutter the laptop ? Delete the system apps I don’t want (windows 10 sometimes prevents me from doing so) ? Any clues/tips would be appreciated !

What folders should be located on c: root

After upgrading to Windows 10, I want to declutter.

There are several programs and files stored on the c: root drive and I am not sure which should be deleted or moved. Also, I think I heard that some programs stored there could be malware.

I know that folders like Program Files, Users, and Program Data should be there. Are there some general guidelines for other kinds of folders could be there or which shouldn't be there? It might not be easy to answer but any insights would be helpful.


I could show the list of folders if someone would be willing to tell me what could be moved or eliminated.

 

iNTERNET/Networking

Hi Greg!

I went through most of your steps to no avail so I backed up my personal files and Did a complete reinstall of Windows 10.

Took a while and I'm dreading the discovery of files I've lost/failed to back up.

However, It seems to have worked and I now have connectivity throughout not just via Browsers!

Good to declutter regardless, and I've had no further problems.

Desktop icons have wacky placement on CU?

What worked in the Anniversy edition? There are only two main ways to set up a desktop with two monitors.

Also you will have criticism when asking for assitance, since you asked for help and first step is to declutter the desktop to make sure that all of those icons are not the problem.

Nothing has changed in how the desktop behaves. The driver you have for your Graphics chip if built on the motherboard or if a PCIe cars, may not be updated by the manufacturer of the chipset, same as their utility software that lets you do more in managing multiple desktops.
