  1. how to detach the microsoft basic display adater to the wired monitor to enable the nvidia...

    Hello to everyone.

I decided to run esxi 7 directly on the bare metal of my powerful PC ( I9 + RTX 2080ti ). Actually I'm using two PCs. The less powerful has an Intel I5 cpu and a GTX 1060 graphic card. The most powerful has an Intel I9 cpu with a RTX 2080 ti and its here that I loaded ESXI 7. I'm also using two monitors. I have attached one monitor to the HDMI ports of my old PC and the other one to the HDMI port of the PC where runs ESXI. I have created a new VM with Windows 10 x64 bit and I have added the pass through ability for my RTX 2080 ti as PCI device as u can see below :

    Processing img un684zhv44451...

and it is recognized inside the VM,the problem is that the nvidia driver does not work because error 43. I think that the vmware video driver interferes with the nvidia driver. I've removed the vmware tools and windows detected the "microsoft standard graphic card" and also a wired monitor connected to it.

    https://preview.redd.it/ebz4a6c8544...bp&s=1e89272869e584e19df05e9847366aa723a12cad

Everytime that I reboot the vm,the nvidia driver gives error 43. The physical monitor is not detected. I have reinstalled the nvidia driver ; it has been recognized and it works until I reboots the machine because I have also disabled and removed the microsoft standard graphic card and its driver ; but if I do that the wired screen is still connected to the microsoft standard driver graphic card and the resolution is freezed to 1024x768. I want to put the nvidia graphic card as primary card and I want to use it with the monitor that it is attached to the HDMI port that it is attached to the computer where runs ESXI 7. Someone knows how to do that ? It seems that the nvidia driver does not work well and the monitor does not turn on. Maybe it does it if I detach the basic display to the wired monitor (that's not a physic monitor) and I attach the nvidia driver to the physicla monitor. You can also read below what I mean :

    https://communities.vmware.com/thread/598626

    it says :

    1. Once you boot into Windows I first had to make the NVIDIA display act as primary. Note, vmwaretools will bypass any attempt to disable the internal sVGA or it's virtual display. So forget about device manager and head straight to the Windows Graphic Settings (right click on desktop/Display Settings):

    a) highlight the display linked to the NVIDIA card

    b) select "make this my main display"

    c) under "multiple displays" select "show only on 2" (in my particular case)

NOTE: The only negative point since the sVGA is disable in the windows configuration, the ESXi remote console will only show up to the windows loading logo and get stuck there. That's when I guess Windows disables the sVGA and set the NVIDIA to be the primary. Hence remote console is not working but you can install your own remote admin software I suppose.

NOTE2: Reading up in Internet it seems like pass-through works better with EFI rather than BIOS. I had a pre-existing VM in BIOS so didn't want to reinstall so all this procedure refer to BIOS only.

  2. Update Microsoft Basic Display Adapter for Nvidia Geforce

I have installed Nvidia Geforce GTX 870M on my Alienware (Dell) computer but the Microsoft Basic Display adapter can't find the PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1199&SUBSYS_05511028.

That should be the address to Nvidia cards, but still, only Microsoft Basic Display is in the list of devices.

I've tried to install any and many of Nvidia drivers, but none of them have the right address in their INF-files. Still messages saying Nvidia installer cannot continue, or, Driver not compatible (because the Microsoft BD can't find the card).

Can I uninstall the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter or at least Update so it can find the right address to Geforce GTX 870M driver?

I simply need a driver for Nvidia Geforce GTX870M that have the "10DE" and "1199" and "05511028" in their Driver INF-files so the Microsoft driver for Basic Display can fint it!

    Microsoft Basic Display Adater

I assume that your MS Basic Display Adapter is the Intel HD Graphics or similar. These basic adapters are what they are (embedded in your Motherboard) and are really only suitable for normal everyday functions on the computer and not for playing games
that put greater demand on graphics and speed. If you want better graphics and a card that matches your processor speed, then you would be better to switch to cards from Nvidia, AMD, etc.

Re: updating the driver. If your adapter is the Intel one, as I have suggested above, then you should go to this link:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html

This "assistant" will scan your system for the Intel product and driver and will suggest a newer driver if there is one required. If after you complete this process and your game still asks you to update the driver, I would then disregard the message and
treat it as an erroneous message.

After all this, if you still find your games "slow moving and freezing", then you will have to look elsewhere in your system as to where there could be a bottleneck (e.g. open programs, running apps, programs being updated, services or tasks opening up and
running, any virus/malware, disk needing defragmenting, or even try using lower settings for a high demanding game).
