The new Bing and Edge - Increasing Limits on Chat Sessions

In the 5 days since we last communicated with you, Bing chat has been a hot topic! Thanks for all the passionate and valuable feedback as it is helping us learn and improve.

Last Friday we implemented limits of 5 chat turns per session and a total of 50 per day. This was in response to a handful of cases in which long chat sessions confused the underlying model.

These long and intricate chat sessions are not something we would typically find with internal testing. In fact, the very reason we are testing the new Bing in the open with a limited set of preview testers is precisely to find these atypical use cases from which we can learn and improve the product.

Since placing the chat limits, we have received feedback from many of you wanting a return of longer chats, so that you can both search more effectively and interact with the chat feature better.

We intend to bring back longer chats and are working hard as we speak on the best way to do this responsibly. The first step we are taking is we have increased the chat turns per session to 6 and expanded to 60 total chats per day. Our data shows that for the vast majority of you this will enable your natural daily use of Bing. That said, our intention is to go further, and we plan to increase the daily cap to 100 total chats soon. In addition, with this coming change your normal searches will no longer count against your chat totals. We will provide you more updates as we continue to make improvements in the model.

We are also going to begin testing an additional option that lets you choose the tone of the Chat from more Precise – which will focus on shorter, more search focused answers – to Balanced, to more Creative – which gives you longer and more chatty answers. The goal is to give you more control on the type of chat behavior to best meet your needs.

Bing Preview Release Notes: Increasing Chat Turns

This week, we’re celebrating a month since the release of the new Bing preview — and we’re continuing to make daily updates.

Here's a summary of what's changed since our March 3 update:

• Increasing Chat Turns: We've increased the maximum number of turns you can have in a single conversation with Bing from 6 to 10. The total number of turns per day has also increased to 120. We are experimenting with even longer chat sessions, and you can expect these numbers to continue to increase over time.

• Faster Skype chats: We heard from you that Bing was slow to respond to your conversations in Skype. We've halved the latency of Bing chat responses, so you get answers faster. If you haven't already, download the latest version of Skype to try it out.

• Fixing "Something went wrong": We've identified and fixed several of the bugs which triggered a "Something went wrong" error when trying to initiate chats with Bing. We will continue to monitor and address the remaining scenarios where this error appears.

New Bing Logo

At the time when the logo was changing Bing did say it will change the logo on all services at the time they were saying the logo will be changing on a region by region basis, I am using a lumia 920 with Black update and the logo has not changed on my
phone. Its a matter of time before all the Microsoft services and devices get the update version of Bing
