Windows 10: How to disable screen darkening for out-of-focus windows?

At some point while setting up my HP Envy laptop I enabled a setting that darkens everything except for the in-focus window, ie the window that I am clicked into. This was cool, but makes multitasking difficult since one window will always be darker than the other. I cannot for the life of me find the setting to toggle this on/off. How do I disable this?

guys just do this test call you phone from another phone cover the proximity sensor (above the E7logo) check if you screen darkens. If yes then put disable the caller photo setting. if the screen doesn't darken take it to your service center.

 

Unable to disable Focus Assist

I do understand how frustrating it could be when the features are not working as they are supposed to work. We would like to know the troubleshooting steps that you have performed so that we can eliminate the recursion of the steps.

However, as you have mentioned that Focus Assist gets re-enabled automatically after disabling it. This issue may be due to a profile corruption. Hence, in order to eliminate possibilities, I would suggest you to create a new user account, disable
Focus Assist and check if the issue persists. Follow the steps from the article
Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
to create a new user account.
