    How to disable startup prompt requiring a Microsoft account connection?


    On startup in Windows 10, it will tell me to connect a Microsoft account and use that to sign in. On the bottom left, there is an option to skip, but it only lasts a few days. Each time it gets shorter and shorter. Eventually, I think it might force me to connect an account which I don't want to do.


    Is there any way to permanently disable this? If not, I will just switch to Linux.

    Microsoft Account Password Required At Startup

    Good day! I'm Raniel, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

    Kindly follow the steps below to enable automatic sign-in to your user account at startup:

    1. On your search bar, type "Command Prompt" and select Run as administrator

    2. On the command prompt window, type "netplwiz" and press Enter

    3. On the user accounts window, select your account and tick the checkbox for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" > Click OK

    4. Perform a reboot and check again.

    If that didn't work, you may also go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in option and set the Require sign-in to "Never"

    • Can you tell us what issue you are trying to troubleshoot before getting the
      Microsoft account required error
      prompt?
    • Is the issue limited to the current Windows user profile you are using?
    • What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
