Do you want to allow this website to open an app on your computer?

Just bought a new Dell Inspiron P66F laptop with Windows 10 installed ten days ago. Everything works well, except EVERY Website produces the following pop-up:

"Do you want to allow this website to open an app on your computer?"

Clicking "Allow" does an always-unsuccessful search for an app that can't be found. Pressing "Cancel" becomes the only choice, but the pop-up appears again with every new Web page.

It's worth noting that we're still using Internet Explorer until Edge can reliably remember Favorites. (Those need to be called up every time, but that's another troubling issue.) We've reset IE repeatedly, we're restarted, we've updated. Nothing gets rid
of this message. Next step: Take the computer back to the store and hope it doesn't appear on its replacement.

    Any concrete suggestions?

Do you want to allow this website to open an app on your computer?

    Hi Dave,

This is odd. It seems like every website that you visit wants to open an app on your computer. Does it say which particular app?

Before taking your computer back to the store, let's check if a third-party service or startup program is causing this issue by

    performing a clean boot
. This is carried out to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update.

A third-party browser extension on Internet Explorer may also cause this issue. We suggest that you open Internet Explorer in no add-ons mode. Follow the steps below:

    • Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
    • Type iexplore.exe -extoff and press Enter.

We also recommend that you use Windows Defender to scan your system for any infections.

Let us know how it goes for us to assist you further.

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. How to Disabled "Do you want to allow this website to open an app on your computer?" :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
