Windows 10: How to display image thumbnails in Windows 10?

OK I know this is an age-old question, but I've never been able to display any images since I bought my Surface Pro 4 new, I always get the image icon rather than the actual image. On the various desktops I have it's never been a problem.


The image flashes briefly when I open a folder with images in it, then reverts to the icon. It's a real pain as I work with images all the time in my work.


I did find these instructions from a couple of years ago, but they didn't work for me:

[COLOR=rgba161, 29, 122, 1]6. At the top Right click the drop down arrow under 'Options' then select "Change folder and search options"[/COLOR]

[COLOR=rgba161, 29, 122, 1]7. Under folder options click the 'View' tab[/COLOR]

[COLOR=rgba161, 29, 122, 1]8. Be certain that all of your files are Still Highlighted, if not cancel out of the folder options and[/COLOR]

[COLOR=rgba161, 29, 122, 1]9. Next, under "Advanced Settings" DE-Select the first entry for "Always show icons, never thumbnails"[/COLOR]

[COLOR=rgba0, 0, 0, 1]Everywhere you look, you're advised to follow the same steps as in #9, i.e. uncheck the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" in Folder Options, but it ju[/COLOR]st doesn't work for me. Does ANYBODY out there know how to resolve this? Thanks.

Image thumbnails are not displaying

I recently started using my Windows 10 laptop again and after updating it I noticed all the image files no longer display the thumbnails. The image thumbnails are replaced by blue mountains. The other Icons display properly. I checked the defaults and
have photos selected.

Follow the steps provided below to turn Thumbnails on/off:

• Open File Explorer.
• In the Menu bar, click on View and then Options.
• In the View tab, uncheck/check the option for “Display file icon on thumbnails” to disable/enable thumbnails.

Show thumbnails of zipped images

CBX Shell provides Windows Explorer thumbnail and infotip extensions for image archives. It enables thumbnail preview for ZIP, CBZ, CBR and RAR image archives. Windows Explorer will display a thumbnail image of the first photo in the archive instead of the generic archive icon.

• CBX Shell supports JPG, BMP, PNG, TIFF, GIF and ICO.
  
• works on Windows 2000 / XP / Vista / Win7/ Win10 (32 / 64-bit).
  
• ZIP64 archives are not supported.
  
• Thumbnail may not be displayed if the archive is damaged.
  
• Images larger than 32 MB are not displayed to avoid memory
  consumption.
  
• Encrypted ZIP and RAR archives can not display thumbnail.
